This week in 1983, The sun and the rain by Madness reached its highest position of number 5 in the UK singles chart. It had entered the top 40 two weeks previously at number 21 and broke into the top 10 a week later. After one week at its peak position, the song stayed in the top 10 for one more week, at number 7, and then spent the final three weeks of its chart life in the lower top 40.

The sun and the rain was released on the Stiff record label. It was the fifteenth of seventeen UK top 10 hits for Madness.
