Thirty years ago this week, Cry just a little bit by Shakin’ Stevens was at its highest position of number 3 in the UK singles chart for the first of two weeks. It had entered the top 40 two weeks previously at number 19 and broke into the top 10 a week later. After two weeks at its peak position, the song fell to number 8 for a final week in the top 10 and then dropped into the lower top 40 for the last six weeks of its chart life.
Cry just a little bit was released on the Epic record label and was the ninth of fifteen top 10 hits for Shakin’ Stevens in the UK. It was taken from the gold-selling album The bop won’t stop, which peaked at number 21 in the UK album chart. The single was certified silver.
