This week in 1973, Ghetto child by the Detroit Spinners reached its highest position of number 7 in the UK singles chart in its sixth week in the top 40 and first in the top 10. After one week at its peak position, the song stayed in the top 10 for another two weeks and then spent the last four weeks of its chart life in the lower top 40.
Ghetto child was released on the Atlantic record label and was the first of three top 10 hits for the Detroit Spinners in the UK. It was taken from the album Spinners, which did not enter the UK album chart.
