This week in 1973, Caroline by Status Quo was at its highest position of number 5 in the UK singles chart for the second of two weeks. It had entered the top 40 seven weeks previously at number 28 and broke into the top 10 four weeks later. After its second week at its peak position, the song fell to number 7 for a final week in the top 10. A further two weeks in the lower top 40 followed before the record left the chart.
Caroline was released on the Vertigo record label and was the fourth of twenty-two UK top 10 hits for Status Quo. It was taken from the gold-selling album Hello, which spent one week at the top of the UK album chart. The single was certified silver.
