Fifty years ago this week, You don’t have to be a baby to cry by the Caravelles reached its highest position of number 6 in the UK singles chart. It had entered the top 40 five weeks previously at number 36 and broke into the top 10 three weeks later. After one week at its peak position, the song fell to number 7 for a final week in the top 10. A further four weeks in the lower top 40 followed before the record left the chart.
You don’t have to be a baby to cry was released on the Decca record label and was the only top 10 hit for the Caravelles in the UK. The original version of the song was recorded by Moon Mullican.
