Breathe by Blu Cantrell featuring Sean Paul entered the UK singles chart at number 1 ten years ago this week, replacing Never gonna leave your side by Daniel Bedingfield. It stayed at the top of the chart for four weeks and then made way for Are you ready for love (remix) by Elton John.
After falling from the top spot, the song spent another three weeks in the top 10, two of them in the top 5. A further eight weeks in the lower top 40 followed before the record left the chart.
Breathe was released on the Arista record label and was the only UK number 1 hit for Blu Cantrell and the first for Sean Paul. It was taken from Blu Cantrell’s silver-selling album Bittersweet, which peaked at number 20 in the UK albums chart. The single was also certified silver.
