This week in 1983, Flashdance… what a feeling by Irene Cara reached its highest position of number 2 in the UK singles chart. It had entered the top 40 five weeks previously at number 30 and broke into the top 10 a week later. After one week at its peak position, the song stayed in the top 10 for another two weeks and then spent the final four weeks of its chart life in the lower top 40.
Flashdance… what a feeling was released on the Casablanca record label and was the second of two top 10 hits for Irene Cara in the UK. It was recorded for the film Flashdance and appeared on its soundtrack album. It was also included on Cara’s album What a feelin’, which did not enter the UK albums chart. The single was certified silver in the UK and was a US number 1.
