This week in 1983, Dead giveaway by Shalamar was at its highest position of number 8 in the UK singles chart for the second of two weeks. It had entered the top 40 four weeks previously at number 33. After two weeks in the top 10, the song dropped into the lower top 40 for the final three weeks of its chart life.
Dead giveaway was released on the Solar record label and was the last of four top 10 hits for Shalamar in the UK. It was taken from the gold-selling album The look, which peaked at number 7 in the UK albums chart.
