Thirty years ago this week, Shakespeare’s sister by the Smiths reached its highest position of number 26 in the UK singles chart, having entered the top 40 the previous week at number 29. After one week at its peak position, the song fell to number 38 for a final week in the top 40.
Shakespeare’s sister was released on the Rough Trade record label. It was the sixth UK top 40 hit for the Smiths.
