This week in 1985, Pie Jesu by Sarah Brightman and Paul Miles-Kingston was at its highest position of number 3 in the UK singles chart for the second of two weeks, having entered the top 40 two weeks previously at number 14. After falling from its peak position, the song stayed in the top 10 for another two weeks, one of them in the top 5, and then slipped into the lower top 40 for the final two weeks of its chart life.
Pie Jesu was released on the HMV record label and was the second of six UK top 10 hits for Sarah Brightman and the only one for Paul Miles-Kingston. It was taken from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Requiem, which peaked at number 4 in the UK album chart. The single was certified silver.
