Thirty years ago this week, The boys of summer by Don Henley reached its highest position of number 12 in the UK singles chart, having entered the top 40 three weeks previously at number 39. After one week at its peak position, the song started to slide down the chart but remained in the top 40 for another three weeks.
The boys of summer was released on the Geffen record label and was the first top 40 hit for Don Henley in the UK. It was taken from the silver-selling album Building the perfect beast, which peaked at number 14 in the UK albums chart.
The single was re-issued in 1998 when it again peaked at number 12. In 2003, DJ Sammy recorded a version of the song that peaked ten places higher at number 2.
