This week in 1985, This is not America by David Bowie and the Pat Metheny Group reached its highest position of number 14 in the UK singles chart, having entered the top 40 the previous week at number 22. After one week at its peak position, the song started to slide down the chart but remained in the top 40 for another three weeks.

This is not America was released on the EMI America record label and was the thirty-eighth UK top 40 hit for David Bowie and the only one for the Pat Metheny Group. It was recorded for the film The falcon and the snowman and appeared on its soundtrack album.
