This week in 1995, Protection by Massive Attack featuring Tracey Thorn entered the UK singles chart at its highest position of number 14. After one week at its peak position, the song spent two more weeks in the top 40 and then left the chart.

Protection was released on the Virgin record label and was the fifth UK top 40 hit for Massive Attack and the only one for Tracey Thorn. It was taken from a platinum-selling album of the same name that peaked at number 4 in the UK album chart.
