Thirty years ago this week, Never ending story by Limahl reached its highest position of number 4 in the UK singles chart. It had entered the top 40 four weeks previously at number 40 and broke into the top 10 two weeks later. After one week at its peak position, the song stayed in the top 10 for another two weeks, one of them in the top 5, and then dropped into the lower top 40 for the final three weeks of its chart life.
Never ending story was released on the EMI record label and was the only UK top 10 hit for Limahl. It was written for the film of the same name and appeared on its soundtrack album. It was also included on Limahl’s album Don’t suppose, which failed to enter the UK album top 40, peaking at number 63. The single was certified silver and featured additional vocals by Beth Anderson.
