This week in 1974, Killer queen by Queen reached its highest position of number 2 in the UK singles chart. It had entered the top 40 three weeks previously at number 23 and broke into the top 10 a week later. After two weeks at its peak position, the song stayed in the top 10 for another two weeks, one of them on the top 5, and then spent the final five weeks of its chart life in the lower top 40.
Killer queen was released on the EMI record label and was the second of twenty-six UK top 10 hits for Queen. It was taken from the platinum-selling album Sheer heart attack, which peaked at number 2 in the UK albums chart. The single was certified silver.
