This week in 1964, Hold me by PJ Proby reached its highest position of number 3 in the UK singles chart in its sixth week in the top 40 and second in the top 10. After one week at its peak position, the song started to slide down the chart but remained in the top 10 for another three weeks. A further five weeks in the lower top 40 followed before the record left the chart.
Hold me was released on the Decca record label and was the first of four top 10 hits for PJ Proby in the UK. In 1981, a cover version of the song by BA Robertson and Maggie Bell peaked at number 11.
