This week in 1974, Red dress by Alvin Stardust reached its highest position of number 7 in the UK singles chart. It had entered the top 40 two weeks previously at number 11 and broke into the top 10 a week later. After one week at its peak position, the song fell to number 10 for a final week in the top 10. A further two weeks in the lower top 40 followed before the record left the chart.
Red dress was released on the Magnet record label and was the third of seven UK top 10 hits for Alvin Stardust. It was included on the silver-selling album Alvin Stardust, which reached number 37 in the UK album chart later in 1974.
