The most beautiful girl in the world by (Symbol), the artist formerly known as Prince, replaced Everything changes by Take That at the top of the UK singles chart twenty years ago this week. It had entered the top 40 two weeks previously at number 4.
The song spent two weeks at number 1 and then made way for The real thing by Tony Di Bart. After falling from the top spot, the record stayed in the top 10 for another two weeks, one of them in the top 5, and then spent the final four weeks of its chart life in the lower top 40.
The most beautiful girl in the world was released on the NPG record label and was the only UK number 1 hit for Prince. It was included on the gold-selling album The gold experience, which peaked at number 4 in the UK album chart in 1995. The single was certified silver.
