This week in 1984, The music of Torvill and Dean by Richard Hartley and the Michael Reed Orchestra re-entered the UK top 10 at its highest position of number 9. It had entered the top 40 five weeks previously at number 26 and broke into the top 10 for the first time two weeks later. After one week at its peak position, the EP dropped into the lower top 40 for the final two weeks of its chart life.
The music of Torvill and Dean was released on the Safari record label and was the only UK top 10 hit for Richard Hartley. The lead track, Bolero, was written by Maurice Ravel in 1928 and was used by Jane Torvill and Christopher Dean to accompany their gold-medal-winning ice dancing performance at the 1984 Winter Olympic in Sarajevo.
