Forty years ago this week, Ma! (He’s making eyes at me) by Lena Zavaroni entered the UK top 10 at its highest position of number 10, having entered the top 40 three weeks previously at number 30. After one week in the top 10, the song dropped into the lower top 40 for the final six weeks of its chart life.

Ma! (He’s making eyes at me) was released on the Philips record label and was the only UK top 10 hit for Lena Zavaroni. It was taken from an album of the same name that peaked at number 8 in the UK album chart. The single was certified silver.

The first version of the song to enter the UK chart was recorded by Johnny Otis and His Orchestra with Marie Adams and the Three Tons Of Joy in 1957. The single reached number 2.
