Thirty years ago this week, 2000 miles by the Pretenders was at its highest position of number 15 in the UK singles chart for the second of two weeks. It had entered the top 40 three weeks previously at number 35. After falling from its peak position, the song spent two more weeks in the top 40 and then left the chart.
2000 miles was released on the Real record label and was the eighth of thirteen top 40 hits for the Pretenders in the UK. It was taken from the gold-selling album Learning to crawl, which peaked at number 11 in the UK album chart in 1984.
