Forty years ago this week, Why, oh why, oh why by Gilbert O’Sullivan entered the UK top 10 at its highest position of number 6, having entered the top 40 two weeks previously at number 17. After one week at its peak position, the song started to slide down the chart but remained in the top 10 for another two weeks. A further seven weeks in the lower top 40 followed before the record left the chart.
Why, oh why, oh why was released on the MAM record label and was the last of seven UK top 10 hits for Gilbert O’Sullivan. The single was certified silver.
