Thirty years ago this week, Union of the snake by Duran Duran reached its highest position of number 3 in the UK singles chart, having entered the top 40 the previous week at number 4. After one week at its peak position, the song fell to number 6 for a final week in the top 10. A further two weeks in the lower top 40 followed before the record left the chart.
Union of the snake was released on the EMI record label and was the sixth of fourteen top 10 hits for Duran Duran in the UK. It was the first track taken from the platinum-selling album Seven and the ragged tiger, which spent one week at the top of the UK album chart later in 1983. The single was certified silver.
