Sixty years ago this week, Swedish rhapsody by Mantovani was at number 9 in the UK singles chart, having entered the top 12 the previous week at number 6. The record spent another fifteen weeks in the top 10, reaching its peak position of number 2 on two occasions, and then left the chart. It returned after an absence of one week for a final week at number 12.
Swedish rhapsody was released on the Decca record label and was the third of five UK top 10 hits for Mantovani. The tune was also a hit in 1953 for Ray Martin who took it to number 4
