Twenty years ago this week, Shy guy by Diana King reached its highest position of number 2 in the UK singles chart, having entered the top 40 three weeks previously at number 4. After one week at its peak position, the song stayed in the top 10 for another three weeks, two of them in the top 5, and then spent the final four weeks of its chart life in the lower top 40.
Shy guy was released on the Columbia record label and was the only UK top 10 hit for Diana King. It was recorded for the film Bad Boys and appeared on its soundtrack album. It was also included on King’s album Tougher than love, which failed to enter the UK albums top 40, peaking at number 50. The single was certified silver.
