Thirty years ago this week, War baby by Tom Robinson reached its highest position of number 6 in the UK singles chart in its third week in the top 40 and first in the top 10. After one week at its peak position, the song started to slide down the chart but stayed in the top 10 for another two weeks. A further three weeks in the lower top 40 followed before the record left the chart.
War baby was released on the Panic record label and was the second of two UK top 10 hits for Tom Robinson. It was included on the album Hope and glory, which peaked at number 21 in the UK albums chart in 1984.
